TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Registration for Theory Modules is open to all advanced students and Pilates teachers who have been accepted into a DMTEP Certificate Program and who meet the pre-requisites. Participants are expected to arrive for Theory Module 1:
  • able to execute all of the prerequisite exercises listed below, or a personal modification
  • with a working knowledge of basic anatomy (see list enclosed)

Theory Modules 1&2 - Pre-requisites: Pilates Exercises

Theory Modules 1 & 2 - Prerequisites: Basic Anatomy

A) Knowledge of the location of the following bones:
Spine 7 cervical vertebrae 12 thoracic vertebrae 5 lumbar vertebrae sacrum coccyx    
Upper Body scapula clavicle sternum ribs Arms humerus ulna radius
Lower Body pelvis ASIS/PSIS pubic bones acetabulum Legs femur tibia fibula
B) Knowledge of the location and function of the following muscles: Note: While attachments need to be known, origin and insertion do not.
longus colli sternocleidomastoid scalenes: anterior, medius, posterior trapezius: upper, middle, lower levator scapulae erector spinae (as a group, not individually) multifidus rotatores biceps brachii triceps brachii deltoid serratus anterior rotator cuff muscles:(4)
  1. supraspinatus,
  2. infraspinatus,  
  3. teres minor,
  4. subscapularis
pectoralis major pectoralis minor latissimus dorsi teres major diaphragm intercostals: internal, external abdominal muscles: (4)
  1. transversus abdominus
