Dianne Miller has been at the forefront of the Pilates field in Canada since introducing the Pilates Method to Canada in 1984. She had professional experience as a dancer, and has an extensive teaching background in dance as well as in Pilates. She was on the dance faculty of Simon Fraser University (British Columbia, Canada) for 10 years, where she has also introduced the Pilates Method. In addition to Pilates, Ms. Miller specializes in structural alignment, and in rehabilitation for the brain injured.
Dianne Miller started her Pilates training with Ron Fletcher in the 1970’s and has been teaching Pilates since 1984. During the 1980’s, she completed study intensives with Romana Kryzanowska, Carola Trier, and Alan Herdman, while continuing to train with Ron Fletcher. In the 1990’s, she continued her studies with Eve Gentry, Kathy Grant, and Jean Claude West. She continues to study with Mary Bowen, Ron Fletcher, Kathy Grant, and collaborates with Michele Larsson and Deborah Lessen on theoretical issues in teaching the Pilates method and teacher training.
Dianne Miller has been a champion for the Pilates Method since introducing it to Canada 20 years ago. She has actively worked to preserve the integrity of the work and raise teaching standards. She trained the first teachers in Canada, and offers teacher training and continuing education for Pilates teachers through the Dianne Miller Pilates Teacher Education Program™, based out of the Vancouver Pilates Centre in Vancouver, Canada.
In addition to her commitment to training Pilates teachers, Dianne Miller successfully challenged applications to trademark the name ‘Pilates” in Canada, on behalf of those teachers she had trained. Her efforts to preserve the right to teach the method and use its creators’ name have benefited every Pilates teacher in Canada, and have contributed to the widespread popularity of the Pilates method of exercise.
Dianne Miller continues to provide leadership and vision for Pilates professionals through her involvement with the Pilates Method Alliance, the international not-for-profit organization for the Pilates Method. She has been active in this organization since its inception, and is the first Canadian to have served on its Board of Directors. In addition, Ms. Miller was an invited contributor on all panels for the development of the Pilates Method Alliance Pilates Certification Exam.
In 2009, Dianne Miller was certified as a Level One Franklin Method Educator with Eric Franklin and Morten Dithmer in Boulder, Colorado, U.S.A.
