What can I expect in the Pilates for Life™ equipment sessions? Equipment will be assigned at your appointment time.  During group sessions, our team teachers will be moving throughout the workout area to actively supervise all participants.  We will be observing your program, giving helpful feedback, and making corrections to improve form.  If you would like individual assistance at a particular point in your session, please do not hesitate to alert one of our teachers. What should I wear to work out? Stay comfortable!  Wear clothing that is comfortable to move in.  Choose fabrics that breathe (natural fibers such as cotton work well), and be prepared to:
  • Be Seen! We need to see your body alignment, including your torso, legs and arms.  Choose form-fitting clothing, and avoid pants or tops that are bulky or too loose.
  • No scents please. We are a scent free facility (this includes the change rooms before you leave the premises).  The chemicals in many scented products are a health concern for those with sensitivities.  Please refrain from wearing perfumed or scented products, including hair products, deodorants, soaps, etc.  If you can smell it, please don't wear it.
Do I need special footwear? No - Pilates is best done in bare feet to allow us to assess your alignment and monitor foot exercises. How frequently should I work-out? Regular practice is the key to a successful program.  You will discover the benefits of Pilates with just 2-4 sessions per week.  These can be equipment sessions only, or a combination of equipment and Pilates Mat/Towel classes.  We can also recommend exercises for you to practice at home. When should I schedule a private session? If you are attending group sessions regularly, we recommend scheduling a private session:
  • at regular intervals, (every 1-3 months) to review your program and progress
  • whenever there is a change in your physical status (i.e., injury, pregnancy, etc.)
  • following an extended absence of 4 weeks  or more, and prior to re-entering groups
  • to design a home or travel program of exercises to do away from the studio
What happens if I am injured? We will be happy to advise you in modifying your Pilates program so that you can continue to train while an injury is healing, maintaining muscle tone during recovery, and preventing adaptive postural changes. If you’re unsure whether you’ll be able to do your regular program, phone ahead. It may not be possible to provide private rehabilitation instruction during a regular group session, and you may need to book a private session so we can assist you in adjusting your program. Should I schedule other therapies before or after my Pilates session? We recommend that you avoid scheduling your sessions on the same day as treatments such as massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic care etc.  If this is not possible, then try to schedule your Pilates session first, and your treatment later in the day.
