WHAT TO WEAR

Stay comfortable!  Wear clothing that moves with you with as little restriction as possible.  Choose fabrics that breathe (cotton works well), and be prepared to work in bare feet.

Be seen!  We can assist you better when we can clearly see your body alignment including your torso, legs and arms.  Form fitting clothing with lots of stretch will allow us to monitor you effectively.  Avoid pants or tops that are bulky or too loose.  You are welcome to bring a towel for working on shared apparatus if you wish.

SCENT FREE FACILITY

The chemicals in many scented products (including essential oils) are a health concern for those with sensitivities no matter how pleasant the scents are.  You are asked to refrain from using any scented products whenever you plan to do a workout or while you are in the facility.  This means NO scented sprays, deodorants, soaps, lotions, gels, creams, scented hair or skin products, etc.  If you can smell it please don’t wear it.

WHAT NOT TO BRING

Please do not bring food or drinks into the workout area.  Please turn off your cell phones when you arrive in the studio.  If you are expecting an urgent message, leave your phone with the Front Desk.

ILLNESS

If you are ill and not well enough to attend your appointment, we appreciate as much notice as possible when cancelling your session (24-hour cancellation policy applies).  In the event of an extended illness, you may request your account be put ‘on reserve’ (see Client Guide or contact the Front Desk).

INJURIES

If you have sustained a mild injury, but feel that it would be possible to do your regular work-out (or a slightly easier version of it), please inform our teaching staff before you begin your appointment.  We will be happy to advise you in ways to modify your program.

If you are injured and unsure whether you’ll be able to do your regular program, it is a good idea to phone ahead to check whether there is a better time to come in if you need more staff attention.  You may need to book a private appointment so we can assist you in adjusting your program.  It is generally not possible to provide private rehabilitation instruction during a regular group appointment or class.

It is usually possible to continue a modified level of Pilates training while an injury is healing.  This is preferable in most cases because it will maintain muscle tone around the injury site, and diminish structural compensations while you are recovering.

REHABILITATIVE THERAPIES

If you are attending rehabilitative therapies (physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, etc.) please keep us informed regarding any pertinent details or developments.  While Pilates exercises can complement other types of rehabilitation, our programs are not a substitute for qualified medical assessment and prescribed care.  Our teaching staff does not diagnose or prescribe treatment for physical ailments.

We recommend that you avoid scheduling your Pilates sessions on the same day as treatments such as massage therapy, physiotherapy, rolfing, acupuncture, chiropractic care, etc.  If this is not possible, then attempt to schedule your Pilates appointment first, and your treatment later in the day.

EQUIPMENT PROGRAMS

The equipment program developed for your use is the property of the VPC.  It should remain in the studio at all times.  If you plan to be away, and would like to take a copy of your program with you, please alert the Front Desk.  If you plan to be away for an extended period, a travel program can be designed for you.  See the Front Desk well in advance of your departure to arrange for either a copy of your program or to design a travel program.
